Nitya, who grew up in a small town in Alabama, now works as a senior marketing manager in New York. Puneet, originally from Antwerp, Belgium, also moved to New York, where he works in his family’s wholesale diamond business, Vishinda. The two met at a mutual friend’s birthday party in New York. Nitya was planning to move to Boston after graduating from New York University, sparking a conversation with Puneet, who had attended college there and knew the city well. He promised to visit and show her around Boston – and the rest is history!

The Proposal

Puneet proposed at one of our favorite vineyards in the Hamptons, Wölffer Estate. Having been there before with friends, Puneet suggested we visit alone on a beautiful, sunny Saturday in August. While looking for a spot to sit, Puneet asked a random gentleman to take our picture. Thinking nothing of it, I agreed. After taking a few pictures on Puneet’s SLR, the man offered to take some with his high-end camera, saying he would email them to us. I soon realized he was actually a professional photographer Puneet had hired to capture the entire proposal! Puneet had even devised a signal – he pretended to tie his already-tied shoes and then asked me to marry him.

Pre-Wedding Shoot

Though I grew up outside of India, my upbringing instilled in me a deep pride and passion for Indian heritage, especially its art. Some of my favorite childhood memories involve Indian art – attending four-hour Bharatnatyam classes, collecting Bollywood cassette tapes, listening to live Carnatic music during Margali Masam in Chennai, and visiting ancestral sites in Mahabalipuram and Nuggehalli. These experiences transported me to a different place and time, to a faraway yet familiar dream. I wanted our pre-wedding shoot to capture that timeless dream of traditional India, its classical arts, and architecture. The 10th-century temple in Udaipur was just perfect.

Our concept for the shoot was traditional yet playful – a cinematic blend of the songs 'Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyaan' from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, 'Taal Pe Jab' from Refugee, and Sabyasachi’s campaign videos.

My fiance’s relative, Kyra Chhabria, a talented designer in Mumbai, helped design my lehenga via WhatsApp. She turned it around quickly and beautifully. My jewelry was a mix of family heirlooms and stunning pieces from Innaya Heritage Jewelry. Puneet’s outfit was chosen in a day in Mumbai, just before we headed to Udaipur.

The most challenging part was finding a reliable hair and makeup artist in Udaipur. We booked a stylist from a local salon, but the makeup artist showed up late, causing some tension. Thankfully, the photographers managed the delay well and maximized the limited time we had for the shoot.

Experience in Udaipur

We visited the temple for the first time just a day before the shoot. Seeing its picturesque and peaceful beauty in person was breathtaking and a big relief. Our parents accompanied us, making it even more special. We were lucky with the weather and crowd on the day of the shoot – it was a clear, bright, and sunny weekday, making the experience more relaxing and intimate. We haven’t finalized our wedding date yet. We’re hoping to confirm a venue in Udaipur, but it’s proving challenging with the time difference. If Udaipur doesn’t work out, we’ll have the wedding in the US.

Experience with Hitched and Clicked

"I was referred to Hitched & Clicked by a close friend who used them for her wedding events in Delhi and Jaipur. Aastha and I spoke for maybe 20 minutes, and that’s all it took. This talented duo understands your vision and does everything to see it through. It worked out well as they were already in Udaipur for a wedding and extended their trip for our shoot. Despite being exhausted after a three-day wedding, they were fully immersed in their work. They arrived early and shot the photos and video within a few hours. The stars aligned for us, and I’m so glad they did!"
