On the big day, Elizabeth radiated elegance in a bright pink saree with a broad golden border, complemented by a contrasting green blouse. She also wore a traditional red and gold ‘chunari’ draped over her head. Meanwhile, Govindam looked regal in a deep maroon sherwani paired with black trousers.  
The wedding took place in the comfort of Elizabeth’s home, where the couple deliberately kept the arrangements simple. The pheras were performed on the apartment floor, surrounded by their closest family and friends. With their parents’ blessings, the couple entrusted them with the wedding arrangements while ensuring two key aspects—simplicity and the absence of religious conversion. “We were very firm on this because we believe that all religions are equal, and one’s relationship with God is personal, not defined by a ceremony,” Elizabeth explained.  
Initially, they considered an Arya Samaj wedding, but it required Elizabeth to convert. Similarly, church ceremonies had certain constraints, leading them to create a ceremony that truly resonated with their beliefs. Govindam’s parents wanted to incorporate fundamental rituals like garlanding and the pheras, so they found a priest who agreed to conduct the ceremony without religious barriers.

“The saat-phera ritual was performed at Elizabeth’s home in the presence of our loved ones. The priest ensured we understood the vows we made to each other. Immediately after, we rushed to the registration office for our court marriage,” Govindam shared.
