The couple envisioned a quintessential, fun, vibrant, big fat Indian wedding while ensuring that every aspect was as sustainable and eco-friendly as possible. To bring their vision to life, they entrusted the team at Nose to Tail Events. Indraja Khare, Co-Founder of Nose to Tail Events, shares, “The wedding decor was completely designed and planned virtually. We worked closely with the couple to understand their vision and requirements. It took numerous video calls and constant exchanges of messages and ideas to translate the couple’s dream wedding into reality. From creating mood boards to sketching the designs out, every little detail was discussed at each stage.” Her partner and Co-Founder, Aishwarya Lonial, adds, “It was our first event in Surat, and due to the lockdown, we saw the venue and met all the vendors only a few hours before the actual event! It was an interesting challenge to understand how the industry works there, and to also spread awareness about sustainability, the limitations that come along with it, and our style of work in such a short span of time.”

The wedding festivities began with the Mehndi function, bringing the bride’s vision of a warm, earthy, and desi celebration to life. The decor featured raw textures, exposed wood, jute, and terracotta. From the furniture to the table runner and even the welcome board, every detail was carefully chosen to embody a cozy, earthy ambiance. Fresh local Indian flowers, upcycled scrap fabric elements, and gota tassels added the much-needed pop of color. The decor was centered around the seating area for the bride, with cute wooden booths placed around for guests to get their mehndi done.

The Sangeet function was designed to be dramatically different from the Mehndi in terms of decor and energy. This event was modern and edgy with a dash of bling. A deep navy hue served as the background to highlight the handmade, upcycled origami statement panels. Hundreds of sheets of scrap paper were painstakingly transformed into a shiny golden wall of origami, creating an unforgettable focal point. A canopy of suspended tungsten bulbs hung over the stage, where the couple and their loved ones showcased stunning performances. The decor was completed with upcycled cardboard tubes, shola flowers, and dried leaves, giving the space a modern, classy look.

The following day began with a vibrant, sunny Haldi and Chooda ceremony. The bride’s Punjabi roots and her love for traditional South Indian decor inspired the unique ‘North meets South’ decor style. A beautiful handmade Phulkari dupatta, complemented by fresh green banana leaves, formed the perfect backdrop. Bright yellow marigolds and upcycled cardboard motifs suspended from the ceiling tied the entire look together, creating a vibrant and picturesque setting.

The wedding itself was a royal affair with classy, elegant decor. The intricate jali work mandap, featuring a Pichwai art-inspired hand-painted center panel, was set against a stunning candle-lit backdrop. Taking the saath pheras under the gorgeous strings of rajnigandha was simply surreal. Hosted in Surat, a city renowned for its textiles, the occasion was imbued with rich brocade, constructing a luxurious, regal atmosphere.
