Harini recalls, “Venu and I first crossed paths at a mutual friend’s birthday party in 2013, where we barely exchanged greetings. Fortunately, we met again at the same friend’s wedding in 2016. This time, we had a long conversation and continued to stay in touch afterwards. Over time, our bond deepened, and soon we realized that our feelings were irrevocable. After dating for a while, Venu proposed, and I happily said ‘yes!’”

Wedding Planning
When asked about how they managed the sudden change of plans, Harini shares, “We had finalized all our wedding arrangements, and even our relatives abroad had booked their tickets to India. However, as the wedding day approached, the COVID-19 pandemic began to cause serious concerns. Ultimately, the government imposed a lockdown just weeks before our wedding. Despite this, we decided to remain positive and proceed with our plans.

Both of us had always dreamt of getting married at Venu’s ancestral home, Marakinni House. After discussing it with our families, we decided to hold the wedding there. This century-old home provided a perfect, intimate setting for our ceremony. Fortunately, we were able to keep our original wedding date, but not without facing several hurdles. We struggled to secure travel permissions for ourselves and our immediate family members to travel to Dakshina Kannada. I traveled to Adyanadka with my family, and despite my saree and blouse being stuck at the designer’s studio, a friend stepped in and quickly stitched a blouse in a day’s time.”

The engagement was a grand event, where the groom made a dramatic entrance on horseback, surrounded by his jubilant family members. Hosted under the starlit sky, the setup sparkled with lights as the couple exchanged rings beneath a floral arch and danced under a gazebo adorned with fairy lights.

“The decor posed a unique challenge since we couldn’t involve professional decorators. Our families came together to beautify the venue. We borrowed the mandap from a neighbor and used my mother-in-law’s saree to decorate it. Local flowers and foliage enhanced the decor. Although our makeup artist and photographer couldn’t secure travel passes, we were lucky to find Sharath Padaru, who stepped in as our photographer just days before the wedding. I did my own makeup. Those who couldn’t attend in person showered us with blessings via video call,” Harini reminisces. The venue, nestled amidst acres of farmland, provided a stunning and serene backdrop for their special day.
