A Sustainable Wedding Planner Vision That Redefined Indian Weddings
Diksha and Siddharth successfully organized a stylish carbon-neutral wedding, moving away from traditional floral arrangements to using recyclable cardboard chairs. While Indian weddings are often characterized by their grandeur, the environmental impact of these celebrations is rarely discussed. However, Diksha and Siddharth made it their mission to create a no-plastic, no-waste wedding, embodying their commitment as green advocates. Their sustainable celebration was just as vibrant and creative as any other, and knowing they were contributing to the well-being of Mother Earth made their joy even more special.
How We Met - A Love Story Rooted in Purpose
“I have a background in design, while Siddharth is a marketing professional and an alumnus of MICA. We first met at an advertising agency and hit it off instantly. Our shared passion for entrepreneurship brought us closer together. We became business partners and now operate D Worldwide, a communication agency, along with a sustainability consultancy for the media and entertainment sector called G.A.M.E. (Greening Advertising Media and Entertainment).”

“The Radio Club in Colaba holds a special place in my heart. As a child, I was always thrilled to view the Arabian Sea from there. It had been my dream to have my wedding near the ocean, surrounded by nature, and what could be better than the iconic Gateway of India as a backdrop? We decided on the Radio Club early on, marking the beginning of our wedding preparations.”

“Siddharth and I don’t drink, but we are fans of Coca-Cola. So, we chose a Coca-Cola theme for our mehndi night. We created a fun photo backdrop featuring various Coke props. The highlight was planting tulsi saplings in Coca-Cola cans and giving them away as favors. Sid even customized his shoes with Coke-themed graphics.”

“While it’s nice to reconnect with our roots, choosing an eco-friendly approach is even better! To minimize our carbon footprint, we used biodegradable materials for our decor. From bamboo food stalls to recyclable cardboard chairs, we embraced a zero-flower policy and opted for eco-friendly confetti during the pheras, successfully executing a carbon-neutral wedding in style! To prevent the usual waste of flowers, we crafted recycled cardboard varmalas for our special day. Besides the flowers in my wedding hairdo, we ensured there were no floral decorations elsewhere. For the pheras, we provided our guests with Ecofetti, which is biodegradable and doesn’t require cleanup. We even added a digital twist to our favorite tradition, the ‘Joota Churai Rasam.’ After Siddharth and my sister settled on a price, payment was made with a card swipe. Additionally, we collaborated with Mission Green Mumbai to promote sustainability among our guests, setting up a booth where they could gift us a sapling instead of traditional gifts.”
